About My Counseling Services
I enjoy meeting with a wide range of clientele. That being said, I do some things better than others. Examples of some of the issues and types of people that I enjoy and have had success working with:
Lack of Boundaries in Relationships Poor trust and communication in relationships Failure to Launch/Finding one's Niche Blended Families and stepfamilies Alternative relationships and nontraditional families (individual, couple, family and group therapy) Coming out of the Closet (as many different closets as people) Traditional families Seniors Biracial/bicultural individuals and families Cross cultural communication/misunderstandings in relationships Adult children of alcoholics, mentally ill/personality disordered parents Divorce (including divorce and coparent counseling with both parties) Career Changes Issues around sexuality and sexual expression Anxiety High-functioning people with Bipolar Disorder or Depression High-functioning Schizophrenics Body Image and unhealthy relationships with eating and food. Self Esteem Spiritual Concerns Tech people with trouble in relationships "Geeks" Adults who sometimes wonder "Do I have mild Asperger's Disorder?" Identity issues and the authentic self I counsel individuals, couples, and families/relationships of all kinds. I see children ages ten and above, with a focus on adolescent transitions. The age range of my current clientele runs from adolescent to active senior. I also offer group therapy. Call for information about group therapy, which is both a dynamic process and a lower-cost option. We collaborate on your treatment goals, or, what you'd like to get out of therapy. I do both long and short term work. I work with the information provided by your psychiatrist if you have one, or any prescribing MD. The best results occur when the client comes ready to work and with a willingness to look at the self, warts and all. My job is to create the safety and trust in our relationship and in the setting required for you to feel comfortable revealing and examining the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are troubling you. I am also there to track and reflect your process, and offer feedback that will be useful for you in seeing yourself more clearly and having more choices available to you. A variety of therapy techniques and theoretical orientations go into my personal style, but across all styles, it's the process of remaining present to you, the moment, that heals.
If things like theoretical orientations and therapy techniques interest you, go here.
Therapy is a joint effort between therapist and client. Together we work to discover root causes, learn the language of your inner world, change your perspective, and understand your behavior. This process makes new choices and ways of being available. My approach is to focus on past, present and future all at once and as the situation dictates, rather than focus on one at the expense of the other. Healing the past, enjoying the present, and creating new growth opportunities for the future are all interrelatedThe point of therapy is to gain insight into the past, become more conscious in the present, and have more choice in the future. The reason why the process is effective is due to the safety and the confidentiality of the relationship, and the non-threatening environment where feedback can be truly heard and self discovery can occur. Not every therapist will be a match for every client. Like any relationship, chemistry and "fit" is important.
